Parkwood rolled into Waxhaw and handed Cuthbertson a 52-17 loss on Friday, Aug. 28, dropping the Cavaliers to 0-2 on the season.
The Wolfpack's road blowout was their first win over Cuthbertson since 2019 and only the third in program history, the Enquirer Journal reported. The victory snapped a five-game Parkwood losing streak against the Cavaliers.
Kickoff was delayed 90 minutes past the scheduled 7 p.m. start because of inclement weather. The delay did nothing to slow Parkwood, which piled up 526 total offensive yards while holding Cuthbertson to 280.
"It's so hard to explain what I feel, but I'm happy for this group of guys," Parkwood head coach Sam Mobley said after the game. "They've worked so hard over the last four years to build the culture and to build the trust in each other."
Mobley played wide receiver on Parkwood's 2013 team that reached the semifinals but never beat Cuthbertson.
Turnovers buried the Cavaliers
Parkwood's defense forced five turnovers. Seniors Nisaih Smith and Micah Enriquez and sophomore Dakari Allen each intercepted Cuthbertson quarterback Liam Wright. Enriquez and receiver Anwar Bit each forced a fumble.
Blake Hopkins added a pair of tackles for loss against Wright and running back Drew Cohen. Hopkins said the game plan was to "punch them in the mouth from the 1st play of the game" and strike fear into the Cuthbertson backfield.
Cuthbertson's offense managed two scores. Wright connected with senior running back Ian Kennedy for a passing touchdown, and Cohen added a rushing touchdown.
Rough start to 2026
The loss followed Cuthbertson's 50-7 Week 1 defeat to Ardrey Kell, according to the Charlotte Observer. Head coach Jeremy East's squad has been outscored 102-24 through two games.
Parkwood, based in Monroe, improved to 2-0 after opening the season with a 47-32 win over Piedmont. Senior quarterback Smith Barlowe accounted for six touchdowns in that opener, with three through the air and three on the ground.
The Wolfpack have topped 500 total offensive yards in both games.
What's next
Cuthbertson hosts Cox Mill on Friday, Sept. 4, looking for its first win. Parkwood hosts Sun Valley the same day.
