Harris Teeter will renovate its Cureton Town Center store in Waxhaw as part of a $253 million investment in the Charlotte region announced Tuesday, Sept. 15.

The grocery chain said it will spend the money over the next three years to upgrade existing stores and open three new locations. The Waxhaw store, at 8157 Kensington Dr., is one of six locations named in the company's press release for renovation, alongside stores in Matthews, Concord, Huntersville, Fort Mill and Rock Hill.

Possible upgrades across the renovated stores include expanded fresh, bakery and prepared food sections; updated layouts and fixtures; shopping cart and parking area improvements; and faster pickup and delivery service. Harris Teeter noted that enhancements will vary by location, and the company did not specify which upgrades are planned for the Waxhaw store.

No timeline was given for the Waxhaw location.

Harris Teeter President Tammy DeBoer said the investments "reflect areas where we believe we can better support our customers and communities." She said the upgrades range from department and service expansions to changes that improve in-store convenience.

Work will roll out in phases across the region over the three-year window, with timing and scope varying by store. The company said additional details about specific locations will be shared throughout the rollout.

The investment also covers three new stores in Fort Mill, Lake Wylie and Kannapolis. WBTV reported that opening dates for those locations were not provided.

Harris Teeter, a Kroger subsidiary headquartered in Matthews, has operated in the Charlotte area since 1936. The company employs 36,000 people across more than 250 stores in eight states and the District of Columbia.

As stores finish their renovations this fall, Harris Teeter plans to host grand re-opening celebrations featuring its "Taste of Teeter" sampling events. No Waxhaw-specific re-opening date has been announced.
