Marvin Ridge's boys soccer team remains undefeated through the first two weeks of Southern Carolina Conference (SCC) play, the Enquirer Journal reported Thursday, Aug. 27.

The Mavericks are one of three Union County SCC squads without a loss. Porter Ridge and Piedmont also remain unbeaten. Charlotte Catholic, the only non-Union County team with a perfect conference record, stands at 5-0.

Marvin Ridge opened its 2026 campaign on the road at Myers Park on Wednesday, Aug. 12, then hosted South Meck at "The Stables" on Thursday, Aug. 13. The Mavericks played Garinger at home on Monday, Aug. 17, and were scheduled to play at Ballantyne Ridge on Thursday, Aug. 27.

The fast start comes as the defending state champions look to build on last fall's title run. Marvin Ridge won the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) 7A boys soccer state championship in overtime over Chapel Hill on Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, at Guilford College, according to HighSchoolOT.

That soccer crown was part of a dominant 2025-26 school year for Maverick athletics. Marvin Ridge Athletics announced fall tryouts on July 28, referencing the program's eight NCHSAA state championships across all sports during the 2025-26 year. The baseball program claimed its third all-time 7A title in May, defeating Holly Springs 6-2 in the deciding Game 3 at Burlington Athletic Stadium.

Michael Wayne O'Neill reported the SCC standings for the Enquirer Journal. His report did not include individual game scores or specify whether "undefeated" accounts for ties.

The Mavericks' early-season schedule has featured both home and road contests, with varsity matches kicking off at 7 p.m. across the first two weeks of conference play.
