Marvin Ridge's home opener against Ballantyne Ridge has been bumped from Friday, Aug. 28, to Thursday, Aug. 27, after Union County Public Schools announced the schedule change due to severe weather in the forecast.
It's the second straight week the Mavericks have had a game moved to Thursday because of storms. UCPS Athletics posted the announcement Wednesday, Aug. 26, on X, noting that Forest Hills and Piedmont also shifted their games to Thursday night.
No official kickoff time has been announced for the rescheduled contest. The Mavericks' Week 1 game at Cox Mill kicked off at 7 p.m.
Marvin Ridge enters the home opener riding momentum from a dominant season-opening performance. The Mavericks routed Cox Mill 77-13 on Thursday, Aug. 20, scoring 35 points in the first quarter and leading 56-0 at halftime. Quarterback Levi Kerr threw four touchdown passes in the blowout, according to the Charlotte Observer.
That Week 1 game was also moved to Thursday after more than 100 North Carolina high school football games were rescheduled because of the threat of storms and heavy rain. Marvin Ridge has now played on Thursday in each of its first two weeks.
Elsewhere in Week 1, Weddington opened with a 49-17 win over Mooresville on Friday, Aug. 21, while Cuthbertson fell to Ardrey Kell 50-7 the same night.
Thursday's game is listed as Ballantyne Ridge at Marvin Ridge, meaning the Mavericks will play at home. Fans should check Marvin Ridge Athletics' social media accounts for a confirmed kickoff time.
