Four Marvin Ridge Middle School students won grade-level awards in the school’s first anti-bullying poster contest, according to Union County Public Schools’ Nov. 2 report.
Eighth-grade counselor Shayna Harris organized the contest during October’s National Bullying Prevention Month after holding an essay contest the previous year.
Sixth-graders Prisha Shrestha and Rishita Challa shared their grade’s award for a collaborative poster combining words and colorful illustrations, including a hand holding a heart.
Seventh-grade winner Jane McKeon drew a bow and an arrow that curves back toward the archer, illustrating how hurtful actions can affect their source. Her poster carried the message “Help, don’t hurt.”
Aanya Savarapu won the eighth-grade award and emphasized inclusion as a way to prevent bullying.
Each student received a $20 Chick-fil-A gift card. Harris plans to frame all submitted posters for display near the cafeteria and hopes to make the contest annual.
