Marvin Ridge boys soccer shares first place in the Southern Carolina Conference (SCC) with a pivotal conference game eight days away.

The defending state champion Mavericks are 8-1 overall and 2-0 in SCC play, according to standings The Enquirer Journal published Monday, Sept. 21. Charlotte Catholic, the other team atop the conference, is 10-0 overall and 3-0 in SCC play. Both squads are unbeaten in conference action, and they are scheduled to meet at Charlotte Catholic on Wednesday, Sept. 30.

The Cougars bring more than a perfect record into the matchup. Charlotte Catholic was ranked No. 5 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Boys High School Top 25 poll, according to SoccerWire. That ranking reflected results through Sept. 13, before the Cougars extended their record to 10-0.

Marvin Ridge carries its own pedigree. The Mavericks won the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) 7A state championship last fall, beating Chapel Hill in overtime on Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, at Appenzeller Field on the campus of Guilford College in Greensboro, according to the NCHSAA.

That title run was part of a broader tradition at Marvin Ridge. The school's athletics program has claimed 43 NCHSAA state championships across all sports, according to the Marvin Ridge Athletics account on X.

The Mavericks play home games at a field the program calls "The Stables," per the same account. Marvin Ridge's single loss this season came in non-conference play, though the opponent and score were not available in published standings.

Wednesday, Sept. 30 at Charlotte Catholic is the next confirmed SCC date on the Mavericks' schedule.
