Parkwood senior Nisaih Smith intercepted a pass and returned it 109 yards for a touchdown Friday, Aug. 28, at Cuthbertson in Waxhaw.

The play was the signature moment in a 52-17 Wolfpack road win over the Cavaliers. It was Parkwood's first victory over Cuthbertson since 2019 and only the third time in program history the Wolfpack had beaten the Cavaliers in varsity football.

Smith, a two-way player, was covering Cuthbertson sophomore wide receiver Alon Miles with four minutes left in the third quarter when the ball went to the right corner of the end zone, according to The Enquirer Journal. Miles initially caught the pass. Smith wrestled the ball away and took off in the opposite direction, covering 109 yards before reaching the end zone.

The Enquirer Journal called it an "unforgettable pick-six."

Kickoff had been pushed back 90 minutes past the scheduled 7 p.m. start because of inclement weather, according to The Enquirer Journal's game recap. Once play began, Parkwood scored early and kept scoring. The game recap named Blake Hopkins, Micah Enriquez and Dakari Allen among the Wolfpack contributors in the blowout.

The win pushed Parkwood to 2-0 under head coach Sam Mobley. The Wolfpack opened the season with a 47-32 road win at Piedmont on Friday, Aug. 21. Senior quarterback Smith Barlowe led that effort with three passing touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns.

Cuthbertson fell to 0-2 after also losing its opener. The Cavaliers host their next game looking to get into the win column for the first time in 2026.
