Tap dancers across the Carolinas will head to downtown Waxhaw in February for a full day of training and live performance.
Taplife Hero Foundation is bringing its third annual LIT Tap Dance Experience to the Waxhaw Woman's Club on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2027, as first reported by The Charlotte Weekly. The event runs from 9:45 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. at the club's home at 200 E. South Main St., a venue founded in 1911.
Residents who don't tap dance still have a reason to show up. A portion of the evening is open to the public, including screenings of historical and contemporary tap dance footage and the LIT Talent Showcase, a live performance by participating dancers.
LIT stands apart from larger dance conventions. Classes take place on a professional sprung wood floor with experienced faculty, and the foundation keeps the setting personal and intimate, according to the Taplife Hero Foundation's event page. The program welcomes dancers and dance teachers of all ages and levels, according to the foundation's website.
Anthony Lo Cascio, the foundation's founder and executive director, has spent 45 years in tap dance, according to the foundation's website. His career includes performing with Tap Dogs and appearing alongside Natalie Cole, Earth, Wind & Fire and Stevie Wonder, according to NJ Stage.
"LIT was created to give tap dancers more time to train, ask questions, work on musicality and connect with other dancers in a smaller setting," Lo Cascio said in a September 2026 press release about a separate LIT event in Edison, N.J.
Organizers said bringing LIT to communities like Waxhaw is part of a larger investment in access, mentorship and the future of tap dance education. The Waxhaw event will welcome participants from the Carolinas and the surrounding region.
Registration is open now.
The foundation is offering a Priority Registration rate for dancers and teachers who commit early, though no deadline for that rate has been announced. Event details and sign-up are available at the foundation's events page.
