Union County Sheriff's Office deputies recovered a stolen 18-wheeler trailer during a traffic stop at Rocky River Road and Old Charlotte Highway.

Deputies stopped the tractor-trailer and determined the trailer had been rented from a person in Concord, WSOC-TV reported on Tuesday, Sept. 8. The sheriff's office described the stop as recent but did not provide a specific date.

No arrests have been announced. The Concord Police Department is now leading the investigation into how the trailer was obtained. No additional details about the case have been released.

Alongside the recovery announcement, the Union County Sheriff's Office (UCSO) issued a broader warning to residents about rental and purchase fraud. The agency said criminals can make fraudulent transactions and rental agreements appear legitimate.

The sheriff's office recommended three steps residents can take to protect themselves:

  • Verify the identity of anyone you do business with.
  • Confirm that the person selling or renting property actually owns it.
  • Trust your instincts when a deal does not seem right.

Residents who suspect fraud or have information about stolen property can contact the UCSO at (704) 283-3789. Tips can also be submitted through Union County Crime Stoppers at (704) 283-5600.
