Union County residents have free access to more than 10,000 mental health resources through a new online platform called Healthier U, which launched Thursday, Oct. 1.

The platform is open to everyone across the county, including residents of Waxhaw, Weddington, Marvin and Wesley Chapel. It works on any phone, tablet or computer at unioncounty.crediblemind.com.

No account is required, no appointment is needed, and personal information is not shared with the sponsoring organization, according to Union County Public Health.

"Healthier U is a gift to our community," Traci Colley, Union County Public Health director, said in a statement. Colley called it a free, confidential resource that does not require residents to make an appointment, share their name or navigate a complicated system.

Resources on the platform include self-assessments, articles, videos, podcasts, guided courses and connections to local services. Those local services include Union County crisis lines and community organizations. The platform covers more than 200 mental well-being topics, and all content is available in English and Spanish.

A dedicated section for young people ages 13 to 18 offers age-appropriate content. The county cited a Mental Health America survey finding that nearly 1 in 5 North Carolina youth ages 12 to 17 experienced a major depressive episode in the past year.

The county's 2025 Community Health Assessment found that adults in Union County report an average of 4.5 poor mental health days per month. Among residents who needed care but did not receive it, the most commonly cited barrier was not knowing where to go for help.

The platform is built for early intervention, aiming to reach residents before a challenge becomes a crisis. Across North Carolina, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline averages nearly 16,000 contacts per month, according to the county's announcement.

Healthier U is powered by CredibleMind, a San Diego-based organization founded in 2018 that works with public health departments nationwide. All Union County departments, including the Library, Veterans Services and Parks and Recreation, are licensed to promote the platform at no additional cost.

The platform is not a crisis line. Anyone in crisis can call or text 988 any time for free, confidential support.
