Chairman Louis Cazzetta honored Vice Chairman Trey Taylor for 16 years of service on the Waxhaw ABC Board at its Monday, Sept. 28 meeting.

Taylor thanked the board and credited General Manager Cheryl Wilson for keeping operations running smoothly, according to meeting minutes. Cazzetta recognized Taylor at the close of the brief meeting, held at ABC Store #124 on Cuthbertson Road.

The recognition comes as Taylor's term on the board is set to expire. Minutes from the board's May 27 meeting noted that both Taylor's and Cazzetta's terms needed reappointment by Oct. 1 to avoid a gap in service. Whether those reappointments have been completed is not reflected in available public records.

Audit delayed

Wilson told the board the annual audit was due Wednesday, Sept. 30, but would not be presented until October because the auditor was ill. No specific October meeting date was announced.

The board unanimously approved its financial report on a motion by board member Patrick McCullough. Board members Cazzetta, Taylor, McCullough and Aimee Larson were present. Board member Patrick Francis was absent.

The meeting adjourned at 6:17 p.m., lasting about 17 minutes.

Board finances

The Waxhaw ABC Board operates a single store. Its adopted budget for fiscal year 2026-2027 projects $5.9 million in liquor sales and $706,800 in total distributions, according to minutes from the board's June 22 meeting. That includes $480,000 to the Town of Waxhaw and $180,000 to Union County.

A performance audit presented at the June 22 meeting by North Carolina ABC Commission program analyst Eric McClary found no adverse findings. The audit rated the board's profit-to-sales ratio in the top 3 percent statewide. For fiscal year 2025, the board reported $5.86 million in gross sales and $588,384 in profit, a 10.04 percent margin.

Wilson attributed the lower revenue projection for the current fiscal year to a statewide decline in alcohol sales and uncertainty around THC-based beverages and other regulatory changes.

Wilson said the delayed audit will be presented to the board in October. No meeting date has been set.
