Bad weather washed out National Night Out in Waxhaw and Wesley Chapel on Aug. 4. Both towns have rescheduled the free community event for Tuesday, Oct. 6.
The Enquirer Journal reported that inclement weather forced both the Village of Wesley Chapel and the Town of Waxhaw to postpone their events. National Night Out is a nationwide campaign that promotes partnerships between police and the communities they serve.
The two towns are holding separate events on the same evening, each with its own schedule and location.
Wesley Chapel: 5 to 8 p.m. at Village Commons
Wesley Chapel's event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at Village Commons, 6490 Weddington Road. The Village of Wesley Chapel's website lists free games and activities, Touch a Truck, safety demonstrations and performances from local student talent. Touch a Truck lets kids climb on and explore emergency vehicles up close.
Representatives from the Union County Sheriff's Office, the Fire Marshal's Office, Wesley Chapel Fire Department, EMS and the Village Council will be on hand, according to the village.
Waxhaw: 6 to 8 p.m. at the police department
Waxhaw's event starts an hour later, running 6 to 8 p.m. at the Waxhaw Police Department, 3620 Providence Road S. The department announced the date on its Facebook page.
Both events are free.
The registration deadline for Waxhaw's event is Friday, Sept. 25, according to the Waxhaw Police Department.
Waxhaw also rescheduled its 2024 National Night Out to Oct. 1 after similar weather conditions.
