Waxhaw's Autumn Treasures festival returns Saturday, Oct. 10, again running as a single day after town leaders shortened the event from its traditional two-day format.
The festival runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in downtown Waxhaw, according to the town's event page. The Charlotte Weekly reported that the Town of Waxhaw trimmed the festival to one day due to costs. The Charlotte Weekly called Autumn Treasures "the premier event in Waxhaw."
BBQ cook-off anchors the day
One of the main draws is the Grill'n and Chill'n BBQ Cook-off. Backyard barbecue teams will grill and sell their home-cooked meals directly to the public, the town's event listing said. Sampling tickets cost $1 each at the Community Corner, according to the Charlotte Weekly.
The Downtown Waxhaw Association said attendees can purchase tasting tickets to try barbecue from all of the competing teams.
What else to expect
Local crafters will line Main Street with handmade goods. Live musicians perform throughout the day. Food trucks and additional vendors are also part of the lineup, according to the Charlotte Weekly.
A Kids Zone with children's entertainment gives families a reason to bring everyone along, the town's event page said. The festival is free to attend, though BBQ sampling tickets are sold separately.
