Crossroads Grill in downtown Waxhaw earned a 90 on its latest health inspection from the Union County Public Health department.
That still qualifies as a Grade A. Under North Carolina's statewide grading system, restaurants scoring 90–100 receive an A, 80–89 earn a B, and 70–79 earn a C. Any score below 70 requires immediate closure.
The inspection took place during the week of Aug. 20–26 at the restaurant's location at 315 N. Broome St., The Charlotte Weekly reported. The 90 was the lowest score among 12 Union County restaurants inspected that week, though all earned A grades.
Crossroads Grill was the only restaurant in the Waxhaw, Weddington, Marvin and Wesley Chapel area inspected that week.
The specific violations that led to the 10-point deduction were not included in the published results. Detailed inspection reports are available through the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services' public database.
Eleven other Union County restaurants were also inspected. In Indian Trail, NY Pizza & Pasta led with a 98.5, followed by Dutch Bros. Coffee at 97.5, Great China at 97, and El Cafetal at 95.5. A Walmart Supercenter deli scored 99.5.
In Monroe, Zaxby's and Jersey Mike's Subs scored 98.5 and 98, respectively. The Village Grill scored 96, Buffalo Wild Wings and Chipotle each scored 95.5, and Copper Tap and Table scored 92.
North Carolina's grading criteria are consistent statewide, meaning the same violations produce the same score in every county, according to CBS17. Wake County Environmental Health Manager Ashley Whittington told CBS17 in April 2023 that officials "consider everything from an 'A' to a low 'C' to be safe."
State law requires every inspected establishment to post its grade card where customers can see it. Full-service restaurants are inspected four times a year.
