Weddington High offensive lineman Bryce Johnson earned a spot on the North Carolina roster for the 90th annual Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.

Johnson is one of 44 top public school seniors selected to represent North Carolina against South Carolina in the all-star game. The roster was announced Sunday, Sept. 27, according to NCFootballNews.

The Weddington High School Athletics department celebrated the selection on X on Monday, Sept. 28, congratulating Johnson on the honor.

Johnson is one of eight offensive linemen on the North Carolina squad. The group includes Gavin Milton of Grimsley, Malek Griffin of Cardinal Gibbons, Kamel Tillman of Richmond Senior, Omari Graham of West Stokes, Gage Camp of Burns, Sammy Wooten of Lake Norman and Charlie Reece of Oak Grove. Grimsley head coach Darryl Brown will lead the North Carolina team.

Twenty-three of the 44 North Carolina players come from the Charlotte or Raleigh areas, the Charlotte Observer reported.

Johnson anchors the offensive line for a Warriors squad in the middle of a dominant season. Weddington entered the week at 6-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play, good for first place in the league standings, per MaxPreps. The Warriors are ranked No. 2 in North Carolina.

Weddington shut out Sun Valley 42-0 on Saturday, Sept. 26.

The Shrine Bowl pits North Carolina's top NCHSAA public school seniors against their South Carolina counterparts each December. The game has been played since 1937, making it the oldest high school all-star football game in the country, according to the North Carolina Athletic Trainers Association. Proceeds benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children.

The 90th edition is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 19, at Spartanburg High School in Spartanburg, S.C. Weddington's next regular-season game had not been confirmed as of Tuesday, Sept. 29.
