Weddington High School's fall sports teams went unbeaten across four sports during the opening week of competition, capped by a 49-17 varsity football rout of Mooresville on Friday, Aug. 21.
Senior quarterback Jared Street completed 11 of 16 passes for 202 yards and three touchdowns in his first varsity start, according to the Enquirer Journal. The Warriors entered the season ranked No. 7 in the Charlotte Observer's NC Super 25 and played on a rainy night at Mooresville.
Every team won the night before.
On Thursday, Aug. 20, varsity volleyball beat Providence 3-1 and the JV squad won 2-0. Varsity soccer edged Providence Day 2-1, with JV matching that scoreline. Women's tennis gutted out a 5-4 victory over Charlotte Catholic. And JV football pounded Mooresville 37-8 in a preview of what the varsity squad would do 24 hours later.
The Weddington High School Athletics department called it a great night for Big Dub on social media after posting the results.
Women's tennis had already opened its week a day earlier, beating Cox Mill 5-4 on Wednesday, Aug. 19. The team was unbeaten on the season at that point, according to the athletics department.
Street's stat line stood out as the individual highlight of the week. He completed nearly 69 percent of his passes and averaged 18.4 yards per completion across his three scoring strikes. Weddington moved to 1-0 in 7A play.

The schedule stays busy. Women's tennis hosts Hough on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 4 p.m. JV football hosts Myers Park on Thursday, Aug. 27, at 6 p.m. The varsity football team travels to Myers Park on Saturday, Aug. 29.
