Two Wesley Chapel restaurants on Weddington-Monroe Road earned A grades in Union County health inspections for the week of Sept. 17-23.

Greco Fresh Grille, a Greek and Mediterranean restaurant at 6400 Weddington-Monroe Road in the Village Commons shopping center, scored 98.5 out of 100. Hot Wok Restaurant, a Chinese restaurant at 5943 Weddington-Monroe Road, scored 97.5.

Both results come from inspection data the Union County Weekly published on Thursday, Sept. 24. Union County Public Health conducts the inspections countywide.

Under North Carolina law, a score of 90 or higher earns an A grade. Restaurants start each inspection at 100 and lose points for violations in five areas: improper holding temperatures, inadequate cooking, contaminated equipment, food from unsafe sources and poor personal hygiene. Inspections are unannounced.

Establishments must score at least 70 to keep their permits. A score below 70 triggers immediate permit revocation under state law.

Greco Fresh Grille and Hot Wok were the only two Wesley Chapel restaurants inspected during the Sept. 17-23 cycle. The countywide round also covered 10 Indian Trail restaurants, three in Marshville and 14 in Monroe. Scores ranged from 92.5 at an Indian Trail Popeyes to a perfect 100 at Mayfair Seafood in Monroe.

In earlier September inspection cycles, a Food Lion on Weddington Road scored between 98 and 100 across its deli, meat and produce departments during the week of Sept. 3-9. A Chick-fil-A at 6390 Weddington Road scored 98 during the week of Aug. 27-Sept. 2.

Greco Fresh Grille is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Hot Wok is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. It is closed Mondays.

North Carolina law requires restaurants to post their sanitation grade cards where customers can see them upon entering.
